Packaging

In the UK, we throw away 5.9 million tonnes of packaging every year. A small proportion of this can be recycled, but most will end up in landfill or simply lie discarded across our countryside. Oil-based plastic packaging contains toxic chemicals and takes up to 1,000 years to biodegrade naturally, so a plastic cup could still be here in 3011! Also, plastic is made using oil - a finite and unsustainable resource.

What are we doing about it?

Our packaging supplier sources only from producers using sustainable materials.

Our carrier bags are made from 100% bleach-free, recycled paper our reusable bag is made from 100% post-consumer waste.

We sell a jute bag (bag for life) which is 100% compostable.

It's not plastic!

All our cups, deli pots & salad containers are made using polylactic acid (PLA). PLA is a bio-plastic produced from corn and other natural starches - it's 100% compostable and generates fewer greenhouse gases during production.

Our takeaway boxes are 100% compostable and biodegradable. Natural fibres such as reed, straw, wood pulp and sugar bagasse (the waste fibre from pressing sugar cane)

And because they're made from natural materials, hot food doesn't 'sweat' inside them.

Our cups and lids are also made from sustainable forest paper with a natural corn-starch lining. They are 100% compostable and comply fully with European Composting Standard EN13424.
