Did you know that around 40% of the food we consume is imported from overseas?
We have been fortunate to experience a few decades where improved travel networks and communication have allowed for a greater food experience. However the supermarkets have eroded the idea of seasonal produce by offering a wide range of foods from across the globe throughout the year.
What are we doing about it?
British Food is at the core of what we do.
We believe that by becoming more attuned with the growing year and eating according to the seasons we can have a really positive impact upon the environment, our local farmers and the economy. British Vegetable Calendar | Fish Calendar
Through eating more seasonally, according to our location, we immediately achieve the following:
- Reduce the need to use expensive packaging that extends shelf life
- Reduce the miles which food is transported
- Reduce the impact on limited natural resources abroad which are being channelled into our requirement to buy certain items all year round
- Support our British farmers through creating a demand for home grown produce
- Harvest food when it is most nutritionally beneficial for us to consume.
Eating seasonally is a fulfilling and creative pursuit.
