Part of our buying strategy at Union Market is to provide provenance through the supply chain therefore buying as close to the source as possible to ensure we provide a high quality product without having too many 'middle men' in between.
Our wine department therefore has a carefully chosen selection of top quality wines that have been sourced directly from the vineyards themselves.
Sourcing
When it came to sourcing the wine range for Union Market we knew we needed a mix of classic old world and contemporary new world wines. No other winemaking family manages to bridge these two worlds as well as the Rothschild's.
The Rothschild's have owned and managed Château Mouton Rothschild since 1853 and Chateau Lafite since 1868, but they were also the first European winemakers to create wineries in Chile in 1988. Now their ventures cover Bordeaux, Corbieres, Pays d'Oc, California, Chile, Argentina and South Africa.
Tony Bromovsky, founder & CEO of Union Market says, "For Union Market we've brought together a range of Rothschild wines, across all price ranges from £7.50 all the way up to the famous Mouton Rothschild. Each of the Rothschild wines reflects the characteristics of each region. The Chilean wines are fruity, the South African varieties are modern wines with enormous style, and the classic Bordeaux wines from Rothschild offer elegance. But for great value, look out for our Argentinean and Pays d'Oc wines. To bring so many Rothschild wines under one roof with Union Market is quite unique."
It is therefore that you will find that a third of our Union Market wines have been exclusively sourced from the Rothschild vineyards.
There are still some places the Rothschild's haven't yet started to produce wine and with this in mind our Head of Wine, Charlie West, and his team have spent many hours sourcing some truly interesting wines from across the world which offer superb value for money as well as guaranteed provenance.
